Timely submission of Birth Registration
and other Consular services

High Commission of India is receiving many late applications for Registration of Birth of new-born child after the stipulated time of one year of actual birth and also for re-issue of Indian passport after its expiry date.

It may be clarified that after expiry of one year after birth, the applicant is required to submit a valid explanation for delay as well as confirmation from the Ministry of Home Affairs of Zambia that the infant has not acquired the Zambian citizenship.

It has been noted that applications for re-issue of passport are being received after the expiry of the passport which takes a longer processing time. It may be noted that the applicants can apply for re-issue of passport one year in advance to avoid procedural delays.

All Indian nationals are hereby advised to initiate the application process well in advance to ensure that the applications for Birth Registration/Re-issue of passport are submitted to the High Commission timely.
